I got a lovely new bike a few weekends ago. It's a 7-speed Globe Daily and is a lot of fun to ride. Compared to the super-light used road bike I've been using, it's much better for a casual ride around the city and won't fall over when I load up a basket in the back for errands. I went to a couple of bike shops in SF on a rainy Saturday. I was initially going to get a
Public bike, but fell in-between sizes. I was then taken by the beautiful Globe Live, with its stylish front basket, but the Daily ended up being hands-down the most comfortable ride. I also don't need a basket most of the time, so it's nice to not have it in the way.
It's a completely different experience being upright and cruising instead of speeding around heads down on a road bike. The only issue I've had is that the chain will bounce against the chain guard on bumpy roads. Hopefully that can be improved with some adjustments.
